The Cottage

4 Church Cottages is a pretty period, brick and flint cottage, located in the charming village of Hempstead, just a short drive from Holt and the North Norfolk coastline. This two bedroom cottage has been lovingly renovated by the current owners to offer a delightful mix of stylish modern living and traditional charm.

On entering the cottage from the generous entrance porch, you are welcomed in a wonderful open plan living space, cleverly arranged with a cosy sitting room area, separate dining space and well equipped modern fitted kitchen. The whole space is bright and sunny with light flooding in from windows on three sides and there is a wood burning stove in front of the comfy corner sofa to curl up in front of in the cooler months. The cottage style dining table and four chairs sits between windows looking out to the utterly picturesque thatched church beyond and the kitchen is arranged to the rear of the central chimney stack. The modern fitted kitchen is a great size and well equipped for keen cooks to create tasty treats. There is a freestanding electric oven with hob, fridge freezer, dishwasher and washer dryer.

Upstairs there are two double bedrooms and a family bathroom, arranged off the landing. Both bedrooms have windows looking out the front or side of the cottage and have bedside tables with lamps and storage for clothes. The extremely smart bathroom has floor to ceiling natural stone tiling, a full size bath with mains pressure shower over, WC and basin with vanity unit.

Outside

Approached from the quiet road, along the driveway shared the three other church cottages, there is parking for one car adjacent to the garden fence.

The lovely private garden is through a gate, just a few steps from the front door of the cottage. This delightful green space is a peaceful refuge from the hustle and bustle of day to day living. There are spaces to enjoy the sunshine, dine al fresco or find a shady spot to relax with a book.

We had a fantastic stay! It was spotlessly clean and it was one of the best-stocked houses we’ve ever stayed in; we did a lot of self-catering so it was wonderful to have every kitchen utensil available that we might need. The only thing I’d be cautious of (which isn’t anyone’s fault!) is that my husband is 6’3” tall and he banged his head in a lot of the doorways! It’s such a sweet, traditional cottage but it’s worth considering doorframe heights before you visit with a tall person!Overall, the perfect base for our visit in Norfolk.

The cottage is very cosy and beautifully appointed; there wasn’t a single thing we needed that wasn’t supplied - quite some feat! It is located in a very small and extremely quiet hamlet. The house is warm, the beds are very comfortable and lovely large towels are supplied as are lots of clothes hangers! In nice weather, there is a very nice garden. We couldn’t recommend it more.

A lovely, well equipped cottage in a peaceful location. We enjoyed having a walk around the village and looking in the beautiful little Church next door Also went on the Holt-Sheringham railway and enjoyed a trip into Holt. The log burner was welcome as was very cold on Friday, but the sun came out for the rest of the weekend. Great cottage, with a lovely attention to detail. Would recommend!

We really enjoyed our stay in this comfortable and cosy cottage. We loved the quiet countryside location and found it a great base for outings to the wonderful places Norfolk has to offer, as well as walking and cycling more locally. When we arrived, the cottage was spotless and stylish with all the equipment we could need. The welcome pack was a lovely surprise. There is a wonderful enclosed rear garden for outdoor eating and drinking, along with off road parking. We're hoping to have a return visit very soon.

We loved our short break at 4 Church Cottages; it was a tranquil escape to the country. The cottage was charming and had great character. It was also warm, cosy and had everything we could have wanted for our stay. With Holt being only five minutes away, we just had to have at look around Bakers & Larners (the Harrods of North Norfolk) and topped off the weekend by travelling in style on the North Norfolk Steam Railway. 4 Church Cottages is definitely on our return list as we loved its setting, views and location!
