The Cottage

The Old Smithy still has the original sign over the door and whilst packed with period features, has been stylishly renovated to create a light, airy and comfortable cottage. Ideal for 2 to 3 guests with a lovely open plan living area, a large wood burner, two double bedrooms upstairs, both with a bathroom and a downstairs shower room. Located in the picturesque village of Great Walsingham, The Smithy is the ideal place to relax & unwind. With a stunning beach only 5 miles away, the cottage is a perfect base to explore all the lovely places North Norfolk has to offer.

Inside you will find:

A good size entrance hall will plenty of space for hanging coats/storing boots etc.

The open plan living space, is both cosy and sociable, with defined spaces for sitting, dining and the kitchen. This charming room retains beautiful features like solid board flooring an exposed brick wall and original Crittal windows with shutters. This is a wonderful space to relax, curled up in front of the wood burning stove in the cooler months, with a book or watching the smart TV and to enjoy a tasty meal, seated at the dining table, that has been prepared in the well equipped kitchen. There is also a small utility room with washing machine & dryer off the entrance hall.

There are three bathrooms in the cottage, one for each bedroom and a shower room downstairs.

Heading upstairs:

From the hallway is the staircase leading to the two double bedrooms and two bathrooms, due to the age and nature of the building, all these rooms have restricted height in places.

The first and smallest of the two bedrooms has a rather unusual - but handy - layout. There are two doors to this room, allowing access to either side of the bed, which is tucked under the eaves (this means that the end of the bed is at the wall, so if you are very tall, this is not the bed for you!). On both sides of the bed is a dressing space with a window, so this is a lovely light room. The bathroom for this bedroom is opposite and has a bath with and held shower attachment, WC and wash hand basin.

The principal bedroom is a good size, again with restricted height in places, with a double bed, chest of drawers, full length mirror and a chair. There is good storage and hanging space provided in the fitted wardrobes. The bathroom for this bedroom is immediately adjacent, with a free standing bath, hand held shower attachment, WC and wash hand basin.

Quality linen & towels are provided.

Outside

There is parking for 1 car outside the cottage.

Although there is no garden, directly outside the front door is an area with a bench so you can sit outside. Should you wish to park on the green then there are further chairs and a table that can also be used at the front to enjoy a glass of wine while taking in the view down to the village green.

Mark: September 2024 *****
We had a wonderful stay at The Old Smithy, it was beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean, in a perfect location. Lots of lovely touches, plenty of wood for the fire, hand soap, tea bags, milk and some lovely biscuits as an extra special treat. It was a real home from home. It was easy to explore the local area, we highly recommend a visit to Wells-next-the Sea, the steam train journey at Walsingham and a real must is breakfast or lunch at O'Brennan's which is a short walk away from the cottage. The cottage is a real gem and did not disappoint, we hope to return very soon.

We had a great few days at The Old Smithy. Hosts were very responsive prior to our visit and gave us a great restaurant recommendations.
The property was clean, comfortable and well equipped. Nicely located for exploring North Norfolk and would definitely visit again.

Marie-Ann: August 2024 *****
It is a very relaxing and peaceful cottage that has been beautifully converted. It has all the amenities you want, with a well-thought-out layout and comprehensive services. The kitchen and living room are very welcoming, and it was easy to settle in and relax. Lovely bathrooms and bedrooms. There's no garden, but that was not essential for us, and the description was accurate and comprehensive. It was a great stay, and we warmly recommend it.

Emma: August 2024 *****

Thank you!

We had a wonderful week at the Old Smithy. Spotlessly clean and with all you need for a holiday base to tour the Norfolk coastline. We would definitely stay there again if holidaying in Norfolk.
