Thinking of Holiday Cottages near Aylsham?

The countryside around the delightful market town of Aylsham is beautiful.  It offers the perfect base from which to explore all that North Norfolk has to offer. 

Furthermore, this area is undoubtedly home to some of the most picturesque villages in Norfolk,  Consequently, the area is gaining in popularity with visitors.   Ensuring there are some lovely holiday cottages near Aylsham to consider for your holiday.

There is so much to explore in Blickling, Aylsham and the surrounding area.  It’s also a great area to consider investing in, if you are thinking of buying a property.

One of the biggest highlights is the Blickling Estate. Comprising of the magnificent mansion, Blickling Hall, a Jacobean stately home and surrounding estate. 

Owned by the National Trust, Blickling is situated in 5,000 acres of Parkland in a loop of the River Bure.  Just north of the market town Aylsham. 

The parkland with its rolling fields, ancient woodlands and the lake is gentle and flat, ideal for cycling, dog walks and picnics.  Boasting two cafés to choose from as well as a brilliant shop, which is full of locally sourced goodies.  

The garden at Blickling is particularly wonderful.  It contains formal and informal gardens alongside Grade II listed buildings and structures.  There is woodland, Victorian garden ornaments, topiary and the stunning kitchen garden with 18th century yew hedges.

Inside the house you will find one of the  most historically significant collections of manuscripts and books in England.

Whilst at Blickling, it is worth dropping into the Buckinghamshire Arms, a traditional 17th century pub serving delicious local food and ales.

The award winning Walpole Arms in Itteringham, just a short drive from Blickling is also excellent. Serving a mix of traditional British locally sourced food as well as Spanish tapas.

Itteringham has a wonderful village Shop, Cafe, Gallery and Post Office.  Community run for the last twenty five years selling local produce, art and curios.

Wolterton

Another pub worth mentioning is the Saracens Head in Wolterton, which has a traditional restaurant and several rooms to stay in. 

The picturesque bustling market town of Aylsham is home to several independent shops, cafés, pubs, cheesemonger, two excellent butchers, greengrocers selling their own homegrown vegetables and a bakery.  A farmers’ market is held in the market square the first Saturday of the month.  There is also a Tesco, Budgens and small Co-op in the market square. 

Visitors are spoilt for choice with several cafés including Biddy’s Kitchen, The Old Tea Room, The Conservatory and Bread Source.  Other places to eat include The Blackboys Hotel, Gate of India, Bonds chip shop and M’s of Aylsham.

This wonderfully picturesque pocket of Norfolk has miles of rolling countryside, wonderful walks and pretty villages and is well worth exploring.  

Significantly, there are a number of very pretty villages that you may not have considered as a place to stay; Oulton, Wickmere, Matlaske & Ingham to name but a few are all within easy reach of Blickling and Aylsham.
