It’s a good walk to Thornham Beach, but it’s certainly worth it once you get there. The starting point is at the picturesque Thornham Old Harbour, scattered with moored up boats and a landscape of saltmarshes and creeks on one side and grazing marshes on the other.
To get to the beach you take the Norfolk Coast Path from Staithe Lane along a raised bank with marshes one side and grazing land other. The path itself is well maintained with sprinklings of wild flowers and benches for when you just want to sit and take it all in.
About 300m before you get to the beach the path narrows and you come across a boardwalk Leave the Norfolk Coast Path and head northward through the grassy dunes where you will find the golden sands hiding behind.
When you get back from the beach, you have a host of excellent public houses and cafes to choose from for some refreshment.
The closest is The Lifeboat Inn, followed by the excellent Orange Tree, opposite the pub. Just outside the village is Thornham Deli, not just a cafe & deli but a fantastic lifestyle store too.
