The Cottage

Spyglass Cottage dates back around 300 years, starting life as a farm building. This delightful, period property, has been completely re-imagined and refurbished by the current owners to provide luxury accommodation for up to three guests; creating an open plan living dining space with inglenook fireplace and wood burning stove, a modern kitchen with breakfast area, downstairs shower room, two bedrooms upstairs exposing the original oak beams and a charming en suite shower room to the principal bedroom. Outside are two fabulous gardens, immediately outside the cottage is the cottage garden with BBQ patio and garden furniture and up the steps is the elevated top garden with breathtaking panoramic views of the coastline, a bench to relax with a coffee and breathe it all in and a summer house to get settled for a day of spying on the wildlife and soaking up the view.

Tucked away behind the coast road, Spyglass is one of three cottages sitting in prime position opposite the beach road in Cley. Still walking distance to the pubs, shops and everything the village has to offer, Spyglass is in a peaceful spot where you can enjoy the stunning and ever changing view to the coast, away from the madding crowd. The main open plan living space has a large comfy sofa, armchair, window seat, dining table for four and gorgeous hand made curtains. There is an inglenook fireplace with original bressummer beam and wood burning stove, smart TV with Sonos sound bar and an array of books to choose from, if you want just relax with a classic read.

The newly fitted kitchen has a ceramic hob and fan assisted oven below, fridge freezer, dishwasher, De Longhi bean to cup coffee machine and everything you need to create delicious food on the days you are not out at one of the nearby pubs or restaurants. Off the kitchen is the downstairs shower room, wet room floor with shower curtain, WC and wash hand basin.

Upstairs are two bedrooms. The principal bedroom has a king size bed with Emma mattress, bedside tables, tall boy chest of drawers and blanket box with a window looking out over the garden; the original beams are exposed in the ceiling and there is a decorative fireplace. The en suite to the principal bedroom has a mains pressure shower, with rainfall shower head, WC and wash hand basin. Bedroom two has a Feather & Black full size single day bed, bedside table, small tall boy set of drawers and window looking out to the side of the cottage.

Guests at Spyglass can expect a basket of treats to welcome them to the cottage, alongside basics like tea, coffee, sugar and spices. The cottage supplies guest robes & slippers and complimentary toiletries as an extra touch of luxury.

Outside

There is unrestricted parking on the raised track to the front of the cottages, immediately adjacent to the coast road and opposite the beach road. The bus stop for the Coast Hopper bus is also just outside the gate, so no need to take the car at all if you want to explore all the coast has to offer!

There is a small area of pathway between the door of the cottage and the private gardens. The 'bottom' garden is bordered by traditional willow fencing and original stone walling. This is a pretty cottage style garden with planting in the deep borders and on the bank that separates the two gardens. There is a paved BBQ patio with built in charcoal BBQ and garden furniture and pretty views out over the Saltmarsh. Broad steps lead up to the 'top' garden.

The 'top' garden is a more wild space with hedging and ferns on the steep bank behind. A long garden bench sits at the top of the steps, a stunning spot to sit and drink in the view to the coast. The Summer House is set a little higher in the garden and undoubtedly has the best views in the house. There is a fridge, kettle, sofa, bistro table & chairs and all you need to get settled and let the ever changing views envelope you whilst you relax.

We had a fantastic stay in such a beautiful cottage. It was everything we had hoped for and more - it was ‘top drawer’ as my other half described it. We had everything we needed - it was clean, beautiful and in such a lovely spot. Everything was such great quality; the linens, crockery, toiletries, welcome hamper and everything in between. Thanks for such a great stay - we will be back.

We had a very enjoyable week at this beautifully decorated and well appointed cottage.Although the weather was disappointing for a Norfolk September,we found the position of the cottage was perfect for walking locally and driving around the coast. The welcome pack was much appreciated.

Lovely well equipped cottage, quiet with a lovely extra of the summer house - fabulous views. Walked to the beach every day, about a mile, it's a pebble beach but quiet and safe swimming. Would stay again, thank you

Spyglass is a beautiful cottage in beautiful surroundings. A very short walk into Cley where there is a windmill, lovely pubs, shops, and great produce at Picnic Fayre and the smokehouse. We spent a lot of time in the fantastic garden which is peaceful with stunning views. We made good use of the kitchen which is well stocked with essential equipment. The house is very clean and the bed is very comfy

We loved our stay at Spyglass Cottage. The walks in Sheringham Park were wonderful, the golden beach at Well-next-the-sea was glorious, and the walks from our doorstep were a delight. In a week of superb weather, we never drove for more than 20 minutes and not at all on some days. Spyglass was generously equipped, and the garden was a suntrap. It was a joyful week.

This cottage was lovely, cozy and set back from the street so also private and quiet. The garden and the views from it were stunning. It is one of the best appointed properties we have stayed at on the Norfolk Coast. Short drive to Holt and many of the other coastal towns. Would stay again.

Spyglass is a gem of a cottage beautifully renovated, furnished and equipped with deeply comfortable king size bed and wonderful views from the upper garden and sunroom. The location on the edge of Cley village overlooking Cley marshes with safe off road parking outside the gate worked really well. The tasty complimentary goodies were delicious and appreciated. The cottage was spotlessly clean and given the unseasonal chilly weather lovely and warm. The log burner was laid along with extra logs which we enjoyed on our last evening which was rainy. We enjoyed exploring locally with highlights being Felbrigg Hall especially the delightful walled garden, birding at the Cley Marshes reserve, the NNR trip from Holt to Sheringham for fish and chip lunch, the wide views from the gazebo at Sheringham Park (worth the 180 steps!), printmakers exhibition at BirdScapes gallery and the village church St Margaret’s. Lovely lunches enjoyed at Byfords, Holt, the marshes visitor centre and The Kings Head, Letteringset. We’d have no reservation in returning in the future.

Cley is a charming village which can be explored on foot from the cottage. The beach can be reached in 3 minutes by car. Great base for exploring North Norfolk! The cottage is ideal for 2-3 people and is equipped to a very high standard. The kitchen is well equipped, we cooked comfortably in the evenings and ate by the fireplace. The garden is beautifully landscaped with a fantastic view over the bird sanctuary to the beach and sea. We really enjoyed the view with morning tea, afternoon coffee or evening wine. Many thanks to our host, especially for the delicious welcome basket! We would like to come again!!

I had almost given up trying to find somewhere in this area as everywhere was fully booked then I came across this place and could not believe it! The accommodation was immaculate and spotless, so clean, tidy and kitted out to a very high standard with everything you could think of and more. It is clear so much thought, care and attention to detail have gone into creating this space we felt very lucky to have stayed here It is an amazing location and situated in a perfect area with everything nearby to explore. We would certainly recommend to family, friends and will hopefully return at some point.

We love little perfect Spyglass. We had a great Easter break and always love returning to North Norfolk. Visits to Holkham and crabbing in Wells/Blakeney are always musts for any break we have up here. The bed here is so comfy and the showers ultra relaxing. We cannot wait to return.

Thank you - what a fabulous cottage. I would stay again for the showers along! Weather has been v. kind so able to explore marshes to Blakeney - great boat trip from National Trust CP at Morston - good walk beyond there too and welcome cafe back at the CP. The Harnser was a very friendly place for a lunch. First visit to the area - a real surprise & treat.

Lovely comfy & cosy cottage. We are regular visitors Cley / Blakeney and this cottage is one of the best we've stayed in. Woodburner excellent fro chilly nights and super comfy bed to fall into after walks on marshes. As keen cooks the spice/herb selection was unexpected but most welcome! For excellent produce try Allards (butcher, North Norfolk Fish Company, P&S Butcher (for game) - all in Holt. The Moorings in Blakeney never disappoints for dinner!

Very much enjoyed our stay in this very comfortable cottage on a stretch of coast we know very well. Ate out at The Harnser (cheerful and sociable), George & Dragon and Three Swallows - both very good food and well-kept beer. Also had meals in, using frozen items from the extensive 'Cook' range (huge range in Bakers & Larners in Holt, convenient and surprisingly good. Hidden gem; Natural Surrounding's charming cafe in the woods near Glandford. Bird list for the week too long to fit here, but no surprises.

What a treat to stay in such a clean and cheerful cottage. Walking distance into Cley for the pub and shops. Walking distance to the beach. Peaceful and super clean. Super comfy bed, loads of hot water. In sunnier weather I am sure we would have used the summerhouse with its great views. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Gorgeous cottage, very well set up indeed - thank you! My husband loved all the spices & herbs all ready to be used in his cooking! Walk to Blakeney is lovely. Cley village is welcoming, great coffee at the cafe/bistro; the Picnic Fayre useful for provisions; and the bookshop excellent for a rainy day browse! Thank you so much for our stay in your idyllic home!

The cottage we stayed in certainly helped make our holiday perfect. The decor was so thoughtfully done. Everything thing we could have wished for or needed was tastefully in place , this helped to make our stay very pleasant. Loved the box of treats, we certainly enjoyed the contents. Cley next to the sea is a perfect destination. So many beautiful walks to explore and the birds are a treat to watch. Definitely be back again.

We had a lovely stay at Spyglass. The cottage has been renovated to an extremely high standard and furnished very tastefully. The kitchen is great and has everything you could need (the coffee machine served us very well). We very much appreciated the generous welcome hamper waiting for us on arrival. Everything was spotlessly clean/brand new. The cottage has a very cute garden which gets sun late into the evening. The upper garden has a cute summer house with great views of the coastline. This would be great for sunset drinks, or in our case as a lookout tower for our 2 year old son :-) The local pub (5 mins walk) serves nice food and is family friendly. All in all it's a great spot to explore the various hotspots along the Norfolk coast. and we definitely recommend both the cottage and Hetti (& the team) as a host.
